Looks pretty good but does complicate a nice simple group. After seeing it I asked Kees a few Speedster specific questions. His answers will help determine my level of interest.

Wow, the spring is much more substantial than I initially expected.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't this look like just an adjustable E61 group?

Eventually you will end up with a lever.

Yeh, you right. And already Kees used that on speedster as a PPIC.

So far I'm liking what I'm hearing from Kees. The group remains self bleeding & the x ring seal on the piston is easily replaced without shutting down the machine although it should last a long time. Still on the original o'ring in the stock PPIC after 6.5 years. Stock PPIC will engage first so you can adjust the new PPIC to extend that slow ramp. The thick, reinforced glass is just a dust cover, no structural function. Switching back to manual P/I towards the end of the shot with still give you a declining pressure profile. Might even last longer with the new set up.

Installation doesn't sound too bad. Remove the group top & bottom along with the intake piping, then install the new pieces.

All very cool. But I'm not grasping what this means in real world situations making espresso. Can someone explain, in simple terms, what this means for espresso? How will this affect the shot making process, outcomes in the cup, pros and cons etc? Cheers

Reading the Infusion section here: http://www.keesvanderwesten.com/speedst ... ction.html will give you a better idea of what Kees is going for.

Too soon to say how much the adjustable infusion ramp will offer. The Speedster's stock PPIC coupled with the out boarded .6mm jet gives a nice initial low pressure wetting of the grounds followed by a slow 12 second ramp up to line pressure using manual PI. Selecting the pump function you still get a 4-5 second ramp up to 9b. I'm told that the new mod may allow up to a 25 second slow ramp up to your set line pressure so you could use a much finer grind.
