Kees van der Westen Single Lever??

Postby duke-one on Wed Mar 30, 2011 5:01 pm

I've seen somewhere a picture of what looked like a Speedster with a single lever group, was I dreaming? Nothing on the KvdW website.

I don't know the exact details, but apparently it was a 1 off production, and will never be available to the public, no matter how many people try to convince him :(

Sad, no? I wonder in a shop where every machine is hand made how much difference it would make to build it as a lever?

Thats possibly not the issue. I would think the more likely reason would be that he has been unable to get it to perform to his expectations and hence would be unwilling to sell it. But of course I could be wrong.

How much is a Speedster anyhow? A three group Mirage?

I was under the understanding that performance issues (temp stability) put a halt to further exploration. That was over a year ago and things may have been resolved since. Third hand information so..
If only the Izzo Pompei or Bosco were HX's I would have jumped on board by now.

Ian Wildbean...

The Bosco is definitely a dipper. Is the Izzo, too? I can't find anything online.

Cheers

Mike

EDIT: Initially posted because I had been told on good authority that the Bosco was an HX, but on checking with the UK importer and Bosco today (just to be sure) I have confirmation that their lever machines are all dippers.

i asked kees a while back and he replied that the project has been canceled as there were way too many problems cropping up... i guess the speedster's body might be a tad small...?

I think the single lever Speedster was referred to as an "Idromatic." I checked into it and he said he had no plans at this time to make it part of the line.

Nasi at Coffeeshopsolutions.com has one new Speedster in stock which I think he has priced at $7000. Considering the Euro/Dollar exchange, shipping and taxes this is actually a good price.
