Izzo Alex Duetto II noise

Postby Runaro on Sun Feb 13, 2011 9:02 am

Recently (last month or so) I have noticed a whistling, oscillating sound/noise from the rotary pump area of the machine. I do not know if it is air trapped inside or if it is a mechanical sound from the pump itself :? .
I have tried to start the machine from cold with steam and hot water open to get rid of air, but no success. Does anyone have any idea how to fix the problem?

What is your pump input pressure and size of the water supply line? It sounds like cavitation from insufficient water supply.

I think Dave is correct regarding cavitation. I had a similar issue with my Vivaldi, but the facts are a little different so I won't confuse you with what I did to solve my problem. However, remember that there is a difference between pressure and flow rate. You may have sufficient pressure with insufficient flow (think of a pressure washer which can remove paint but puts out very little water). If that is the case, switching to 3/8 inch tubing often helps.

It has not been an issue for the last year of usage on the same water supply line. I have a pressure regulator connected to the machine water supply which is set to 2 PSI (the recommended pressure according the shop where I bought the machine). The water pressure to the regulator is about 4-6 PSI.

Could the pump be making contact with another part of the machine? The layout on those machine is so tight that over time maybe your pump moved a slight amount where it might be touching another part. I had a slight issue with mine, but slightly repositioning the pump solved it. If that doesn't cure it then might be due to a clog in the filter at the inlet leading to the cavitation that Dave mentioned. Good luck.

I believe the problem was in the pressure regulator (maybe not of the best quality :( ) After playing around with it for a while the noise disappeared. It was probably cavitation causing the noise.
