Isomac Tea II - insufficient shot volume

Postby jimsmith123 on Sun Jan 24, 2010 9:21 am

Hello everyone - regular reader now turned poster as I have a problem with the Isomac Tea II I purchased in March 09.

The problem is that during a 25-30 second pull I only seem to get c. 2/3 of a regular 45ml espresso shot. This is with very light tamping, just patting the coffee down really. If I tamp as is normally recommended (applying firm pressure) no/hardly any coffee will flow at all.

I should note the taste is pretty ok, perhaps less crema than usual... I have descaled the machine. I am using Bolivian beans properly ground on an espresso setting using a gaggia mdf grinder.

Over xmas, it could be I had a more severe variant of the same problem, the coffee would hardly flow and was very weak. The boiler pressure read c. 0.6 bar. Isomac posted me a replacement pressurestat and boiler pressure gauge and having replaced the parts/made some adjustments the boiler pressure is c. 1-1.4 bar and the pump pressure c. 9 bar when pulling a shot. However, it doesn't seem as if the problem is entirely resolved?

Any ideas where to start in diagnosing this problem? many thanks!

A regular shot is actually 30 mL rather than 45.

So if you are getting 2/3 of 45mL you are spot on!
