Isomac Tea Gauge Chatter - Page 2

Postby S-Thing on Wed Apr 12, 2006 1:32 pm

All,

First off - Thanks for everyone's help!

Not wanting to do any real work last weekend I decided to play around with my Isomac.

Since it appeared damping was the issue, and the system use to work fine, I tried a simple fix. I took the gauge/capillary tube off the machine (it is a "fixed" unit). Using a butane torch, I heated up the capillary to drive out any excess water. After about 5 minutes, steam and water ejected from the tube. I let the whole thing cool before reassembling and the gauge is now working perfectly!

My theory is that over the course of time, steam condensed in the capillary loops filling them with water, effectively shortening the tube and volume of air needed to isolate the gauge.

After 3 days everything is still working as good as new. :D :D :D

Thanks again for sharing your expertise!

I also just noticed this gauge flutter problem on my 3-4 year old Tea. I'm going to putz around with it this weekend, and if i can't see any problems inside i'll try removing the capillary tube and drying it with a butane torch. Even though that would seem strange since the capillary is filled with water, nor air when it is in the system!
