Isomac Tea flickering power light

Postby jimsmith123 on Sat Feb 19, 2011 2:50 pm

Hi - grateful for some advice.

Very occasionally, when pulling a shot, my Isomac Tea will momentarily lose power - the red power light flickers on/off. On each occasion after a bit of a struggle the machine has gone back to normal and I continued pulling the short. However, a bit worrying, surely something is wrong and would prefer to nip any problems in the bud now. any thoughts?

Hello, Jim

I haven't owned a Tea for quite a long time now, but there's one possibility I can recall. When the water level in the reservoir drops below the point where it will weigh down the sprung platform it rests on, the platform rises and opens a microswitch underneath which cuts the power and (I think) the power light goes off Does this happen more often when the reservoir is low ?

It's a rather crude arrangement, and the one I used to have would switch off fairly early. I think there is some adjustment you can do, but it may still be rather inconsistent. It may be that the vibration from the pump is triggering something like this.

Hope this helps.

thanks - vibration from the pump when the water reservoir is low is an excellent suggestion. I normally keep the water topped up so this might explain why it's not happening so frequently. I'll test and post again if this is in fact not the case.

Another, almost obvious, thing to check would be the various wiring connections starting with the main switch. Naturally, do this with the MACHINE UNPLUGGED.

I do agree that the water reservoir level switch shuts the entire machine down and, if nothing else, this would be an easy switch to bypass.
