Is this PID OK for Rancilio Silvia?

Postby theCoffer on Tue Mar 17, 2009 1:12 pm

Hi everyone, I want to get a cheap PID for my Silvia, so my question is:
I found a Selec (made in India) PID at a price I am able to pay, but what I don't know if it's ok for a standard Silvia PID mod:

I would really appreciate any advices.
cheers,

I don't know the unit, but the specifications are fine (use an SSR with it as output, and a thermocouple attached to where the button stat is now as input.)

But ... it's 1/16th din, not 1/32nd din (i.e. two lines of readout, not just one). The usual places to mount them, next to the group or in the splash panel, may not be large enough.

It's CJC (cold junction calibration) spec at +/-5C is a little weak. This gives rise to the possibility of wide variations in sensing the temp at the boiler, depending on the ambient temperature fluctuations at the controller.

Hard to say, though, how much better a particular unit might perform versus the spec limits.
