Great advice on avoiding Muriatic or Hcl, and the cautions associated with it.

Just use the Citric acid in the concentration listed here, I just wanted to add you can use a heat gun or hair dryer to keep heat on the boiler and metal tubing, significantly speeding up the descaling process.

As others mentioned if the scale is as significant that you feel it is, it needs to be disassembled because of the large amounts of particulates that can end up ruining 3 way valves, pumps and gicleurs, etc.

When I was a reckless teenager, I was producing hydrogen by putting aluminum foil into high-concentration HCl. A bit of it could completely dissolve a surprising amount of foil in minutes, with lots of bad fumes emitted. Take extreme care while manipulating such a strong acid. Rubber gloves and eye protection are mandatory. If a drop ends up on your clothing, it will make a hole, and if you don't rinse your skin immediately, you'll get a nasty chemical burn.

Agree this! Good sense should always prevail. I remember the saying "do as you oughter add acid to water"....still holds.
