Illy Pasquini Livia 90 automatic pod to ground conversion?

I cross posted this question to coffeegeek with no response...
I found a Pasquini livia 90 auto at a great price, but it's from Illy, their sales department says it's a pod only machine and doesn't do ground coffee. Anyone know if a different portafilter or parts could turn it into a real espresso machine?

My initial thought was "I bet they just want to hook you for their pricey pods for life, surely it can be converted." But a quick stop by the resellers of the Livia led me to this disquieting footnote on Whole Latte Love:

Pod Capable
The Livia 90 Automatic is not pod capable and there is no adapter for this machine.

That lends considerable credibility to their claim it's a one-way street.

I spoke with the Pasquini parts dept. It's doable, but the parts would be in excess of 200$.
