I was cleaning my machine the other day and the screw that holds the dispersion screen in place slipped down the sink. I saved it, but thought about how bummed I'd be if I lost it and how easy it would be to have a back up for it.
I was curious what others always keep in stock as a back-up item in case of failure, loss, or for routine maintenance.

2 group gaskets
1 shower screen
1 vacuum breaker
1 OPV valve seat/steam wand O-ring
X feet of silicone tubing
1 roll of Teflon tape
1 tube food grade lube
2 doser lever return springs
2 doser level "catch arm" folded springs
1 Ulka 52W Vibe Pump
Note: I dont make a point to keep an extra pump on hand. I bought it for my Gaggia, but ended up not needing it, but, since I have it, its not a bad part to have on hand.
If I had nothing, and was putting together a list of things to have, it mainly would be the first three.

1 Complete E61 Seal Kit
Dow Lubricant
1 Sirai Pressurestat
1 Vacuum Breaker
1 OPV
1 Pressure Gauge With Tubing
1 Fill Solenoid

I have always believed in being prepared for anything so in addition to all the above I keep a large stock of fittings and what nots available just in case.

This was me till the day bummed the pressure gauge while draining the boiler.
I figured since I was making an order might as well save my self some of the aggravation when it happens again.
Murphy's Law states "the part you will need is the one you don't have".

Several people have mentioned the Sirai Pressurestat. The point contacts have a long life, but the pressure membrane has a shorter life. You may want to check the membrane for hardening, if you have that the dead band on your stat may be wider than you could have with a new membrane.Bluegrod wrote:2 Group Gaskets

Just something to look at.

Exactly, which is why I tend to agree that all you need is an internet connection. Also, I use vac pots, french press, pour over, etc for coffee and have plenty of other culinary vices if needed (wine, scotch, steak, etc). Sometimes a break from espresso is nice so it wouldn't bother me too much to wait a few days for a part. Life is just too short.TeMpTiN wrote: Murphy's Law states "the part you will need is the one you don't have".

For my Vivaldi I keep boiler cover gaskets on hand for descaling & a grouphead gasket. None of the other typically mentioned spares are required & if something did fail I've got the MCaL. The MCaL is new so no spares yet. Oddly enough I do have an entire shelf in my shop dedicated to vac pot spares. The Hario NCA 5 (Nouveau) was discontinued several years ago but I was lucky enough to buy the last NOS unit from the N.A. distributor that he had been saving for himself. After using it daily for several months I decided to stock up on spares as they were being phased out & I really don't care for the looks of the newer TCA model.
Current vac pot stock includes 3 spare upper & lower NCA5 globes, 4 complete cloth/metal filter assys so I don't have to clean(Oxiclean Free) them everyday, 2 butane burners, original alcohol lamps, an NCA 3 w/spare globes, handles & the last new NCA 5 stand (discontinued) in No. America just in case I need to run two 5C pots for company.
