How to drain the boiler before shipping an espresso machine

Postby brokemusician77 on Wed Mar 02, 2011 1:16 pm

Hey folks,

Hoping to pull the trigger on an HX machine in the next few days. I've found a buyer for my Gaggia Baby. I've been looking for some instructions on how to drain the boiler before shipping the machine off into the Canadian winter. (-25 celsius here today) I'm really hoping not to have to take the whole machine apart.

I found these instructions on the Wholelattelove website. Does this seem like the right method?

Their instructions look reasonable. Shipping an espresso machine - help offers other suggestions. While I've never tried it, some have recommended running a mixture of "antifreeze" made from water and cheap vodka through the system if shipping to really, really cold climates.
