After working with this a while it seems that someone who must have considerable experience worked on this machine before I received it. Thus, it choked a lot easier than it might have if it had retained the factory setting. Glad I didn't make any assumptions. Everything seems to be working very well now, except the hepf. That'll take a lot more work.

Thanks again for the tips. Filters on the way.

I was able to find an answer to this. Apparently they changed the switches later in this machine's run. The old (narrow) ones would break more easily, sometimes only lasting a year. The new (wider) ones apparently never break and are oriented opposite, with on in the down position.

After a year of practice and experimentation I suppose I'm getting fairly adequate with this machine. Since I don't have much to compare it to, I imagine I don't know what I'm missing with nicer machines.

Yesterday I saw a new Gaggia 14101 Classic at a local liquidation store for $199. It's a good price, but I really don't know if it would be a move up or laterally. Any advice/insight would be appreciated.
