I think Dan's suggestion that the problem may be coffee sludge is likely to be the answer. Time for some Cleancaf.
I've had the same machine for two years now and have never encountered a problem with grinds clogging the pressurized filter basket. I always run an empty flush shot before pulling a real shot and when finished for the day. If it's not already part of your routine this is something you should do with this machine for two reasons: It clears residual coffee from between the two filter layers that create the pressurization and also helps a bit with getting more consistent temps. There's quite a bit of residual brewed coffee left in there--enough to produce a tea-like color in the flush shot. This stuff is getting cooked into place while the portafilter sits warming in the group head if you're not pulling flush shots.
Since you've already got the machine do what many of us who own it have done and spring for the Krups #0907163 double filter basket, originally made for another Krups unit. It's a standard, unpressurized basket that fits perfectly, though it doesn't hold as much coffee as the original pressurized double basket. Authorized Appliance has the best price for this including shipping. Dan has indicated in the past that the Micro Casa a Leva double basket also fits, though a tight squeeze. Those are currently listed as back ordered at 1st Line Equipment.
It's not the worst machine ever made and will certainly do better than the shots served by countless well-equipped but uncaring shops throughout the land if you keep it clean. Hope this helps.
All the coffee in Ethiopia won't make me a morning person.
