Hello,

The heating element on my Anita won't turn off. It just keeps rising and rising. I turned it off at 1.8 and it is normally set for 1.2. Is the pressure stat broken? It is going on two years old. Thanks all help is appreciated.

Agreed, see Sticky pressurestat and photos of the Quickmill pressurestats in Chris' Coffee FAQ How do I replace a C.E.M.E. pressure stat with a MA-TER pressure stat?

If the tube that supplies your pressurestat with water is located at the bottom of the boiler, it is quite possible that the tube is blocked with gunk. In that case, the pressurestat will not be able to sense the boiler pressure. Undo the pressurestat from the tube, (take the wires off the switch on the pressurestat) and clean out the tube with a flexible wire or pipe cleaner. Then with the pressurestat still off, flush some water through the tube by filling the boiler.
Also clean gunk out of the pressurestat itself with a pipe cleaner and a bit of water being careful NOT to get water on the electrical switch. Then reassemble. You may have to re-calibrate the pressurestat, but that is pretty simple. If that doesn't work, most likely the microswitch is broken. You can test the sswitch by taking it off the pressurestat and using a multimeter on it. The microswitch is a standard electrical part which can be replaced without buying a whole new pressurestat.
