It has provided great service for almost a decade. Now something sticks and the boiler does not shut off after reaching temperature or pressure. Any ideas what part(s) are at fault?
The pressurestat is the culprit. The pressurestat regulates the pressure of the steam boiler. Without it, the boiler would either remain cold (pressurestat fails open), or, as in your case, heat up until it the safety over-temperature tripped (pressurestat fails closed). You've had a very good run; they usually fail every few years. I believe yours has a MA-TER pressurestat:
