Hello everyone,

to finish my astoria, I've been trying to repair a gicar flowmeter. this is probably not cost efficient etc.

the reason I think it's broken is that the led on it stopped flashing, and the dosing doesn't work.

anyway, I've managed to get a new hall effect sensor to work and get a signal, but I am unsure what signal the flowmeter has to so the brain box will understand.

had a go at the three wires which were originally connected to the flowmeter and one is ground,
one is + 21 volts dc and one is + 19 volts dc.
from this I would think that the flowmeter would sink rather than source??

my question is does anyone know what signal the flowmeter puts out?
better still does anyone have an oscilloscope trace of such a signal?
am I correct in assuming the flowmeter is sinking rather than sourcing the signal?

thanks for the help everyone.

While water is flowing you should get a square wave on your scope. The magnets toggle it between + and ground. if you don't feel like hooking up a scope, you can use a voltmeter to verify that the output goes high and switches to low as you turn the impeller by hand in the sensor (top off flowmeter, water turned off, etc)

Thank you, if we can see what you describe, the flowmeter is sourcing rather thank sinking the output,
now I know how to connect the transistors.
