General consensus on pump pressure settings on elektra a3/t1

Postby UFGators on Mon Aug 01, 2011 7:59 pm

For those who have used the elektra t1/a3 longer than me (mines only a month old), what pump pressure setting have you found to work best? I am referring to the pressure during brewing not just a blind basket setting. Mine is brewing at 8.5 to 8.6 on the machine gauge so my question is does this machine seem to work better at the mid to low 8 bar range or the 8.75 to 9 bar range? I am experimenting with different settings but would like a general opinion so I can eliminate the guesswork. Thanks in advance!

Your starting point sounds reasonable.

I believe that comparing brew pressures in sub-1.0 bar increments is not meaningful since that falls below the accuracy of the built-in gauge. Even if you compared with others using a Scace II thermofilter, I would still recommend the hands-on approach: Increase/decrease the brew pressure at least 1.5 bar and compare the taste (take notes). Based on your results, halve the difference between your previous setting and the current setting. Repeat until convinced the results are unchanged.

My bet is that within a dozen extractions, you'll end up where you are today ±0.5 bar. :)

Lol, you are absolutely right... I am at 8.8 to 8.9 bar (my best guess per the gauge) now and I can't say that I taste much difference. I do feel that the bottomless extraction is a bit more uniform but I think that is just the power of suggestion. I really do feel that it would be hard to distinguish less than a .5 bar change but that's me.
