Gaggia Classic pump problem cuts out at high pressure

Postby jonboncoffee on Fri Jan 20, 2012 6:55 am

Hello,

My Gaggia Classic coffee machine pump fails at higher pressures. :(

Following a descale and (admittedly my first ever) back-flush my Gaggia Classic pump has gone a bit wierd. At higher pressures the pump apparently ceases to work and falls silent meaning the pressures achieved are insufficient for decent espresso... It's not merely that I am choking the machine as the pump seems to completely cut out. It is very much like the situation seen in this video:

I've repeatedly primed the machine, as recommended in the thread responding to this video but so far to no avail. Any help would be gladly received!

Thanks jon :D

Hello,

Just to say, the pump started working normally again after three days with occasional priming! This is consistent with the experience of others with this problem that posted on the YouTube vid below.

I wonder what was going on...

You symptom sounds more like an electrical line problem. If the heating element comes on at the same time, and there is a large appliance on the same circuit (fridge, dishwasher, etc.) it can cause a line voltage drop and the symptom you describe.
