Gaggia Baby Twin not heating up

Postby palengh on Thu Oct 06, 2011 3:59 pm

I've used my Baby Twin for 6 months now. This afternoon it apparently turned on - all indicator lamps (buttons) on front panel was lighting as normal, except the "proper temp" indicator was lit constantly as opposed to flashing when heating up.

There is no heat at all on brewing head OR the cup heater.
The power is OK (checked on other outlet etc.)

What could be wrong?
Is there a fuse other than the long rubber wrapped one on top of the brewing unit?
- This fuse seems OK as it's still intact and not burned off.

What am I missing?

Was this a new unit, that is only 6 months old when the motherboard broke? Did it just simply break or was there some critical event that caused this failure?
Who found out - was it the seller?
Thanks. I have a Baby Twin and while I only use it as my travel machine, I am chary of it - it seems to get a lot of bad press.

This was a new, only 6 months old unit. And the motherboard had to be replaced - within the guarantee, though.

No event can be associated with this fault. The machine suddenly stopped heating up, including the cup heater plate.

I had to send the machine to the national repair shop where they gave this diagnosis.

Other than this I am very statisfied with my Baby Twin. They say, though. After Phillops accuired Gaggia some of the good quality was lost, maybe due to change in production facilities, and tougher demands in regard to revenue.
