...For Art Bernini For
Espresso Pasquini!

Just received this Livietta today, it appears to be a 1980 although there are two badges on it, one with serial number starting with 80, the other with 85. Or maybe it's another year entirely.

While browsing the Pasquini versions I'd seen a variety of graphics but this is the first time I'd seen their slogan on the back of the machine. I bought it from a guy who collects Pasquinis because he used to be a service manager there. The only thing he had done is replace the pump. At minimum all that I need to do is replace the sight glass and buy a portafilter and basket. I'll examine it a little closer tonight. The chrome is in great shape. And the case is in good enough shape, with one major scratch, that I'm going to keep it original.

Soon I will also have the 1 group Astoria lever from Orphan Espresso.

Cheers,
Greg

Some local L.A. history. The Pasquinis started with a coffee bar in Los Feliz (Vermont Ave.) in the 50's, when beatniks popularized espresso and north Vermont Ave. was an Italian district.

My wife was "crushed" that the case on the Pasquini I just restored was scratched up enough that I had to get it painted. That lovely brown is awfully appealing in a modern kitchen.

This is a great find Greg. Seems many on HB are finding and restoring these machines. Once back up and going as you'd like it, it will serve you for many years.

As far as a replacement PF, contact Orphan. Hard to say for sure, based on the pictures you've posted, but my guess is that you've got a 49mm group head - which I believe will be a good thing. Mine has a 54mm, and it's an oddball "54"... baskets are an odd size, and there appear to be no other options than what Olympia sells (I got one before the previous US-source closed up shop... for $54! - a dollar per millimeter - yikes). Oly seems to have settled on the 49mm, so parts should be easier to source.

Nice! I have been pulling from my livietta for a few months now and it is just a pleasure to use and drink from. The group looks like 49mm because I think the 54mm groups slant in more but I could be wrong. I am hopefully going to receive contact from a guy with one livietta and three portafilters. If he is willing to give up two, I'll let you know.

Oh, man, that would be great. Please let me know. I believe it's a 49mm thankfully. I couldn't find a tape measure or ruler since we recently moved, but looking at the dispersion screen, group head, and comparing it to my 49mm tamper, it sure looks like a 49mm to me.

The Livietta has really been an unexpected joy in my kitchen. So much so that the commercial gear may be hitting the road. I have a 54mm group and agree that baskets are a pain to source. Somehow I've ended up with a double and a huge triple basket (in a naked pf) that i believe are la san marco so they are out there. Compared to the 49mm Cremina the shots are equally excellent but different in character... The livietta being consistently brighter tasting then the Cremina. I'm loving the livietta and I'm sure you will as well, regardless of group size.

Check the replacement pump to confirm make/model. The Ulka pumps produce a different profile than the OEM Fluid-O-Tech.

For Buddhism- a Lama
For politics- Obama
For espresso- the Sama

By the way, the political reference reminds me that, until recently, we New Yorkers VOTED on lever machines.
