Food Safe Thread Lock? La Pavoni pressurestat pipe

Postby MaxScarletto on Tue Sep 20, 2011 6:04 pm

Hi Folks,

1st time poster! :D

I am in the middle of renovating my beloved Eurpiccola and had a few problems with the pressurestat pipe.

1st when I fitted the pipe back into the new element I purchased it did not screw back into the same orientation as on the last element! A bit of judicious bending has resolved this issue but...

The darn thing has a dribbly little leak!

having rooted around these boards it seems that La Pavoni use a thread lock/seal on the thing which would explain why it was devil to remove!

Does anybody know which of the gazillion Loctite compounds I should use (other thread locks are available!)? I guess it has to be food safe and heat resisitant?

Hope you can help
Mat

As you are in the UK you may have greater access to Loxeal products than we do in the US...Loxeal sealants and thread lock compounds are the ones used in the Italian espresso machine builds rather than our Loctite products.

You probably want Loctite 2046 (see bulletin here: http://www.ibtinc.com/artman/publish/lubrication/fda_compliant_threadlocker.shtml)

Loctite is in fact pretty easy to get here in the UK.

Loxeal 15-36 or 18-10 (PTFE based) or 58-11 (harder to dismantle) could be good solutions and are suitable for drinking water but don't specify food (click on the the Technical Information link on this page for full range info: http://www.loxeal.com/threadlocking.html). However, they may actually be more difficult to obtain in the UK (though Loxeal could probably supply direct from Italy). Their UK subsidiary appears to have been wound up: http://bizzy.co.uk/uk/03954774/loxeal-uk.

Cheers
