Fittings between Flojet pump and Shurflo accumulator

Postby AA on Wed Dec 10, 2008 3:09 pm

Hello,

I wonder if anyone could tell me exactly which fittings I need to connect my Flojet pump to my Shurflo accumulator?
The Flojet has a 1/4" John Guest and the Shurflo has 1/2" NPT and I can't find a John Guest that is 1/2" male and 1/4" tube.

How did you do when connecting them together?

Depending on the machine it is going to, a ¼ inch supply line is very small. I run a ½ inch supply that goes to a regulator the necks down to 3/8 to the pump. You may be better off replacing the ¼ JG fitting with a 1/2, if it is removable. I have not used either so I do not know if the fitting is fixed or removable.

If I want to install a Shurflo accumulator between my Flojet and the machine, I basically just need a couple of 1/2" NPT to 3/8" John Guest adapters like these, right? I ordered a John Guest shut-off valve as well. Should this go between the Flojet and the accumulator so I can empty the accumulator before disconnecting?

Will this MPT adapter work for the NPT fitting on the accumulator? Home Depot doesn't seem to carry the one I linked on Watts' site. They also have the MIP version here.

I just set this exact thing up with fittings from home depot. A helpful tip is that the Flojet has a removable adapter going from 3/8 to 1/4 - I didn't realize this came off at first. Then it's pretty straightforward, although I went with compression fittings for longevity, the easy plug plastic stuff leaked a bit on me.

You're lucky - the only difference between a US 1/2"-14 NPT thread and a European 1/2"-14 BSP thread is the angle of the thread (60 degrees vice 55 degrees) AFAIK. So, go to the local hardware store and buy a brass 1/2" BSP to 3/8" BSP or 1/2" BSP to 1/4" BSP bushing. Apply a little teflon tape to the 1/2" bushing threads and you should be easily able to find a JG fitting that screws into your new bushing and accepts your Flojet tube.

What Shurflo accumulator do you have? Pictures would be helpful.

Sorry, maybe I should have started a new thread instead of bumping this old one, but I figured I'd be told off since it's been covered before... My Shurflo accumulator came from EspressoParts, and seems to be a discontinued model. It has 1/2-14 FNPT ports.
