First gen Vetrano inlet thread specs?

Postby Balthazar_B on Sun Dec 27, 2009 1:27 pm

I've searched through all the forums and old email, and nowhere can I find a spec on the threads used for the water inlet pipe on my first-generation Vetrano. I recently moved the machine to a second home and left the complex plumbing in our first home as it was, and I'm looking for a suitable joint I can use between the machine and a John Guest fitting (I have) that will connect to my 3/8" OSD line. A tech at Chris Coffee sent me one to try, but the threading seems a bit off and I get leakage (yes, I did use plumber's tape). My alternative is to schlep the machine to a plumber's supply house and hope they have a huge supply of metric/BSPT fittings (assuming that's what Quick Mill used), but I'd like to avoid the schlepping if I know what size to get.

If anyone has that info and can reply here, I'd appreciate it VERY MUCH!!!

Thanks!

By 1st generation, I assume you mean the machine that has the inlet fitting horizontal and exiting from the rear as compared to vertical and exiting from the bottom (at the rear). I do believe the fitting is 3/8" BSPP threads (they may be BSPT) but that shouldn't matter.

The hydraulic seal is formed between the inside diameter of this fitting and a conical fitting on the flex hose furnished with the machine. I believe Chris' Coffee sells an adaptor to transition from the BSP threads to US threads and maybe this is what you were sent? In any case, I don't believe it is ABSOLUTELY necessary as a standard dishwasher supply hose has a 3/8" US pipe threaded nut and conical end that will (should?) seal just fine.

Yes, it's a first gen machine with the inlet coming out the rear of the machine (not the bottom as in the current generation). If memory serves, I got it with a steel-braid hose/washer combo. I'm trying to connect it to the plumbed in line in our current house, which is 3/8" OSD (i.e., pretty standard).

The inlet pipe actually measures out closer to 15mm or 5/8" at the tapered end, and I suspect it's one or the other (either metric or BSPT). I can't tell the threads per inch or cm though.

US pipe threads (NPT) are 3/8-18 and British threads (BSPP or BSP) are 3/8-19. Both are a touch over 5/8" in diameter ( ~0.67").

If you still have the "original" steel braid hose, use it. If not, a 3/8" steel braid dishwasher hose will suffice.
