I recently bought a Faema E61 legend how do I tell whether it is a single or three phase machine ?

Single phase 220V generally uses three wires (two "hot" and one ground).
Three-phase power requires 4 wires (three "hot" and one ground)

A three-phase connection may actually have 5 wires (three "hot", one ground, and one neutral).

The neutral wire is optional...

The Faema can be sourced from either 1 phase or 3 phase. With correct voltages of course. Difference is in how the wires are attached to the main switch. Faema manuals show the different voltage and phase combinations in the install section.
