My new/old Faema Compact finally arrived! I've managed to take it all apart and start cleaning pieces.

Frank, looks like fun. I am nearing completion of an Auto model and have found this machine to be fairly easy to work on with good availability of parts and information. If you need reference pics check here. More to be added shortly. I also have parts and user manuals if needed.

Were you able to test it before taking it apart?

Thanks! Your pics should be very helpful.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to test it but I was told by the previous owner that it worked. Did you decide to bypass the water softener?

Also, I've been able to determine that it's a 1994.

So, I've got most of the parts clean and I'm waiting on new gaskets, etc to be delivered. In the mean time, I reassembled most of the machine to test the pump. When I turn on the power, the pump comes on after a couple seconds and starts filling the HX. Shouldn't it fill the boiler? What could be causing this?

I rebuilt one about 3 years ago...the push button on the front will fill the water to reach the proper level
in the sight glass window...after that it will maintain its water debit.

You can stop the autofill by grounding the wire going to the top of the sightglass probe. When this circuit is open, it indicates the water level is low and tries to fill until the circuit is closed when the water level touches the probe. Ensure the heating element is disconnected when you do this.

I figured it out. There was a piece of scale blocking the water inlet so that no water could enter, even from the manual fill button.

Now, I'm waiting on parts to come in. More pictures to come

I've got the machine put back together and working (pics coming soon). The first shots I've pulled are very oily and don't have a lot of crema. Does anyone know what might be causing this?
