Expobar Brewtus won't heat

Postby EspressoJB on Tue Jan 17, 2012 8:07 pm

After years and years of daily use, my Expobar Brewtus suddenly won't heat. The other odd thing is that the lever arm to activate the pump feels stiff. If I pull it, the pump will run, and cold water will come out. When I turn off the pump, the pressure gauge will start to rise, even though the pump is off. After about 5 minutes, the dial shows 4 bars of pressure. I can release the pressure by opening the hot water valve, but then the pressure begins to build again. Stuck valve? Any suggestions besides just taking it in for repair? Thanks in advance.

Hi

I'm in LA also and know enough about what makes a Brewtus work and have enough spare parts in the coffee part box to likely be able to fix it or at least tell you what the problem is. Have you pulled the top to see if the little red button on the overheat switch popped?

The lever likely feels stiff because the machine is cold.

Ira, I haven't check for the overheat switch. That sounds like a good first step.

I would take Ira up on his MOST GENEROUS offer ASAP.

Yes, the thermal switch might have "popped" . . . but there is a reason it popped.

If the transformers coming Thursday fix the broken Gicar box in the corner, you come by Friday or Saturday, don't know which one yet and then you and Zendel can pull shots on my Brewtus while I fix both machines. Three HB users at once would be a first for me.
