Espresso Specific Water Test

Postby duke-one on Sun Jul 10, 2011 1:22 pm

Hi All: I recently had a e-mail conversation with a water testing company suggesting that they come up with and offer an espresso specific water evaluation. A simple thing: you send a sample of your water, they evaluate it with reference to best coffee and machine care. Anything not related to this would not be tested for. They were looking into it but I thought I'd ask if anyone else thought this a useful idea or know of any such service existing now.

Make sure they are familiar with coffee chemistry and coffee industry water standards. Otherwise you will just get some basic values (and confirmation the water is potable). This is especially true, if it's just a testing lab that doesn't do water treatment. You have to tell them what to look for and what your goals are. (My wife is a retired water treatment chemist.)

Marshall: That was my intention; a company or person with knowledge of both, a test result as would apply to espresso brewing only.
