Espresso machine pump not working after long storage

Postby Iwantpetes on Sat Sep 25, 2010 3:21 pm

I have a Estro Vapore Espresso machine that is probably seventeen years old. I purchased it new from Starbucks. I used it regularly for many years but got out out of the routine six or seven years ago and it has been sitting on the counter ever since. Recently, my daughter (an espresso hound) asked me to show her how to operate the machine. I'm sure due to it sitting idle for so long I cannot get the pump to work. Does anyone know where I can get it repaired? Or, is it worth repairing in lieu of replacing it with a new/better machine? If it's the latter, what similar new machine is recommended?

With the machine unplugged, remove the top surround cover from the machine and disconnect one of the heating element leads. Put some electrical tape over the exposed lead.

Grab your turkey baster and fill the pump's suction line with water. Turn the machine on and start the pump but do not run it for more than 30 seconds with 30 seconds rest between attempts. Should take about 2-3 minutes for you to get going again and then the boiler needs to be thoroughly flushed. Reconnect boiler's electrical and test her out.

These machines go for ABOUT $125 on Ebay so repair by other sources may not be cost effective.
