Elektra Microcasa Semi - not pumping water for coffee - Page 2

Postby jaskok on Mon Sep 20, 2010 9:03 pm

I had same problem with my SanRemo and I find coffee block flow master valve. take flowmaster valve out and where water is going in "there is little orifice" check orifice and clean. If that is not helping I will clean grouphead.

I followed Jim's advice and replaced the pump*; but can't get it to prime. The pump turns on but won't draw water into the boiler. Was I suppose to do something with the new pump before installing it? Any suggestions?

*Note: The Elektra Semi pump now comes WITH A PREDRILLED HOLE IN BODY. I purchased it through 1st-Line. They do cost more but are much easier to self-install - http://www.1st-line.net/cgi-bin/categor...type=store

Ulka pumps are self priming. I may have goofed in my advice by not considering all the possibilities: check the metal pipe from the tank to the base, maybe there's an obstruction.

Thanks, Jim. The pipe from the tank to base is clear (I had the sense to check when replacing the pump). The pump pulled a little water then nothing more. I notice that the pump outlet turns with some effort - both on the old and new one - is that right?

Elektra uses thread sealant, that makes the pipe hard to turn. But the problem is stumping me.

Ok, Jim, I'll take a fresh look in the AM ... a trip to 1st Line may be in my future.

Jim at 1st Line suggested I had a vacuum lock in the new pump. Following his instructions, I attached a squirt bottle to the intake hose and forced water into the pump while it was running until the vacuum cleared.

For good measure, I also replaced the p-stat. Pulled my first shots this afternoon - fabulous.

Thanks to Jim Schulman (alias: another_jim) and 1st-Line for all the help.

So much for the idea that Ulka pumps always self-prime. Glad you got it resolved.
