Little things like the weight at the end of the portafilter handle that gives them more balance and looks nicer. The rails on the frame under the drip tray so you don't scratch the paint off and end up with rust(tho I think they may have adopted this more recently on the Profitec's as well). My machine is plumbed in and it's much easier to hit line pressure pre-infusion by lifting my lever than the other e61 machines I've used, a simple first click, no fussing with trying to find the sweet spot.
Besides that I think they are very similar. I would tell someone in the market either machine will make them happy, but the ECM will just be a little nicer to use every day.
Here are some potato quality videos I made to show what I meant.
Hello Not2Bitter,
Supposing that the ECM Synchronika is plumbed, so it has [2 bar] line pressure, looking at your first video (the one that shows the water), it seems that it not only can do preinfusion at line pressure (e.g. 2 bar) in the first click position, but later after going to full pressure, you put it back to the first click position and it goes back to line pressure (e.g. 2 bar) and only later you end it. So it seems it can do a limited pressure profiling with three levels (line pressure during X seconds, full pressure during Y seconds, line pressure during Z seconds). Is this correct?
Thanks,

That is exactly whats happening. It's a very versatile machine.
I have a linea mini now, and I'm about to sell the ECM but I can say that the ECM is much more forgiving because of the ability to control the pre infusion.

Selling the ECM?! Sad panda. I'm assuming you had no problems with it while you were using it (e.g. no PID over shooting, etc)?Not2Bitter wrote:That is exactly whats happening. It's a very versatile machine.

Does anyone have information on when this machine will start being sold? If I recall, I thought I saw WLL showing that it was going to ship in August, but now it just says out of stock with no information. Maybe I imagined that.
I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on a profitec 700, but from what I can tell this is basically an upgraded 700 and might be worth waiting for.

Maybe the clive guys will have more info... but I bet you won't see them in stock in appreciable numbers until the end of sept. Just my $0.02. It does appear to be similar to the profitec 700 with a couple of additions. I'm personally waiting for the ECM Synchronika to hit the distributors instead of biting on a Lucca M58 or profitec 700.

I am inclined to wait as well, but the longer I wait the more worried I am going to talk myself into a linea mini instead
I do want to wait a bit to understand the machine more. The profitec has a couple of issues that have been making me waffle towards the m58. Specifically not being able to set the steam temperature on the 700 seems like an oversight. Then again the 700 has a bigger boiler, which means it should have better steam power. But that could be compensated by raising the steam pressure, which I am hoping the syncrhonika has. I'm probably sweating details that only matter during research phase and any competent person can make perfect milk with either. But sweating details is what espresso nerds do.
All I know is that thermoblock steaming is for the birds and I want to go back to a real double boiler.

In my case, while I have been waiting for the Synchronika (I have not pre ordered), I am beginning to lean towards a Vesuvius (version two), not the Linea Mini. I don't care much about steaming power, but like the way the Vesuvius can provide flexibility and repeatable profiles. Cheers, VPN
