I found the answer to my question right here from 2006 Gicar controller blown again - wiring help?

Put everything back together today. One little mod the old control box was originally mounted at an angle under the boiler, and was actually touching it burning the box and the PC board. In the link of the previous post from 2006 the pictures show this must have been, or is a common problem. I bought a 1/2 aluminum spacer from the hardware store and tapped the center out to 4mm 70. I put it on the end of the bolt that the box was orginally mounted to, and used a 4mm hex head bolt to secure the control box to the spacer. That pulled the box far enough back that I could secure it leaning out away from the boiler.
