Does E61 detergent backflush also clean the mushroom/screen

Postby CSME9 on Sun Nov 16, 2008 11:09 pm

When doing a e-61 cafiza backflush does that also clean the mushroom/screen.

I also notice my espresso shots are hotter afterwards or could it be due to soaking the portafilter/handle in cafiza which is removing a layer of coffee crud/oils.

Thanks, WS

No, it does not clean the mushroom. That is part of the heat exchanger/thermosiphon system, to clean it you would need to do a descale. The detergent flush cleans the shower screen, dispersion disk above the screen and the waste water path. Not sure why your group would run hot after a backflush. The group may be a bit warmer than usual from all the water that got flushed through.
