Differences in E61 shower screens

Postby pizzaman383 on Mon Nov 28, 2011 10:08 pm

I ordered a replacement E61 dispersion screen from an online vendor. When I installed it, it didn't seal unless I really cranked on the portafilter to tighten it. I thought I was doing something wrong. I happened to order another screen from a different vendor along with some other supplies. When I compared the three screens, here is what I saw:

The screen on the right came with my Vibiemme, the one in the middle (listed as a replacement shower screen for a Vibiemme) does not seal well, and the one on the left came from another vendor and works just fine. There doesn't seem to be a way to tell whether you are ordering a short or tall screen on most sites.

Has anyone seen this? How do you know whether you are ordering a short or a tall one? My Vibiemme seems to be sensitive to the screen height. Are other machines less picky?

It would be nice to know where you got the short one and if you had made any effort to contact them concerning this and what their response was. Can I guess that the sort one was from a supplier which does not sell Vibiemme...? I thought all modern Vibiemme machines used the same group and so would use the same screen... Maybe not..?

I bought the short screen from 1st-line where I bought my Vibiemme. I contacted 1st-line and they said that that was the only dispersion screen they stock. I sent them the pictures but have not heard back.

I received the tall screens that match the one that came with the Vibiemme from espressocare.

Not what I expected.

the short one also has a rivet in the center; the other two, if I am correct, do not.

You're correct. I've also got a tall one that's welded and has a center spot.
