Could I borrow or rent your thermofilter?

Postby wesleynance on Fri Nov 17, 2006 8:01 pm

Hi,

I'm wondering if any of you fine folk live in Rochester, NY, and have a thermocouple portafilter that I could borrow or rent. I have an Expobar Office Pulser, and want to get some hard data on the temps in the basket so I can more accurately judge how long I need to do the cooling flush. I've read all the great articles on this site about HX machines, but feel I'd be more confident if I had some hard data.

Thanks!

Yes, I live near Cobb's Hill Park in Rochester and you can borrow mine.

You know, that's a great idea.

I'd like to ask the same thing of any Los Angeles area members, does anyone have a thermocouple PF and meter they would rent? If you're close come on over and we'll put the new Volante thru some paces and share some coffee.

Along similar lines I wonder if area members ever get together for mini Coffee fests where different blends or SO's get shared along with barista skills? I realize the logistics are difficult unless the location has a few machines and grinders. At that moment I've still got 2 machines in the house, so that would limit the size.

Yup, I've hosted four of 'em so far. The last one Sept 2nd attended by nine espresso machines ranging from a Silvia, my Bricoletta, a couple Olympia Creminas, a couple other levers and a full commercial Cimbali (M31?) plus as many grinders, oh and bunch of espresso fiends too.

Well, we've been doing these every year at the SCAA HQ in Long Beach. Roasters send in their best blends from around the country, and SCAA lets us pull them on the La Marzoccos. This year we also used a GS3. Description of last event here: http://www.home-barista.com/knockbox/2006-scaa-consumer-homecoming-t1561.html.

And yes, I would love to rent/borrow a thermofilter in L.A.

Marshall,

Thanks for the link I will keep my eyes peeled for the next gathering.

Does that mean you too would also like to borrow one. If we get enough people to chip in maybe we could purchase one that could do its own roadshow?

I would certainly be interested in renting, borrowing, or chipping in on thermofilter in the Sacramento area.

That seems doubtful. I don't have a Fluke lying around or any other digital thermometer that takes a T-type thermocouple (I've been nagging Greg Scace since it came out to make one that takes cheap K-types). So, we're talking about a $400-550 investment, and who keeps it when we're done?
