Could I borrow or rent your thermofilter? - Page 2

Postby terryz on Mon Nov 20, 2006 1:06 pm

We are looking to put together a tech tune-up kit that will be available very soon. This kit will be available for rent with a deposit placed and a user fee. Given the cost of such a kit, we have ditched the Roadshow option. The kit will include a Fluke Thermometer, and a Scace 2.0 Thermofilter.

The new Thermofilter includes a pressure gauge built in to the portafilter. We have tested the units and now will complete production very soon.

The good news about this kit is that it makes the Thermofilter available to those who would not normally want to spend 300+ to get a home machine dialed in.

I don't want to give to much away :D but this kit will be a great addition to the HB community.

NICE!

Will the kit be able to accommodate different machines, ie a Cimbali versus an E61, etc? If so, count me in!

Terry,

Count me in on the waiting list! That is such a great gesture, for you to put this together.

And I JUST purchased a Fluke 52 II thermocouple thermomater and a data log Fluke meter. I needed them anyway.

Wow, I had no idea this thread had progressed! I saw it again in alt.coffee. . .

I've had AndyS's thermofilter and Fluke meter for a week, and it's been eye opening. I realize that at least on my machine (Expobar Pulser) I need to have some realtime monitoring, so I'll be getting the adapter that lets you install a thermocouple into the E61 grouphead.

If my machine has been sitting, then even if I flush 8 seconds from boiling and immediately lock and pull I can get up into the 204 range. If I do the same thing on the next shot after a short recovery, then I'm down around 200 where I wanted to be. The relationship between the HX water temp and the grouphead temp is really interesting.

Anyway, Andy is great, his setup is about the most intense home espresso setup I think I've ever seen, reminded me of Back to the Future. I joked with him after telling him about my temp results that he would probably need counseling if he had to control his brew temp with just the HX flush! He can dial his setup into absolutely anything, I can't wait to try some espresso.

The rental program from espressoparts sounds terrific! It is a huge investment for the Fluke and Scace (would be more than I paid for my machine since I got it used) so if Andy hadn't been local and so generous, that would be my only option as well, except for winning one in the contest, of course!
