Cloudy White Water From My Espresso Machine

Postby AlexJayUK on Sat Jan 08, 2011 8:21 am

Hi All,

I have a domestic Delonghi EC710 espresso machine that has been keeping me happy for a while now. But recently I was curious to see how the water looked without filtering it from coffee. To my shock, I noticed that the water was cloudy, and then that cloudiness just disappeared after a few seconds. I only use mineral water in my filter machine and I don't know how this cloudy water is being produced nor how to get rid of it.

I am assuming that I need to de-scale, but I haven't got a clue how to do this nor remove all the limescale if it is present.

Would anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

Alex

I guess that what you see is small air bubbles that is incorporated with the water.

You'll want to use descaler for a machine like yours, which I believe has an aluminum boiler. Otherwise the situation could turn worse with something like citric acid.

If it disappears, its just air bubbles, as the previous poster suggested. Nothing to worry about. Depending on what type of faucet you have, hot water from it will likely look the same.

Mineral water? I sure would not use that. Filtered water, distilled water cut with tap water but mineral water is, well, full of minerals. That will scale up a boiler like crazy. As others have said, as long as the water clears up and tastes good once cooled it is probably just very small bubbles in the water.
