Cimbali M30 and no clue what we are doing

Postby nisajoy on Wed Mar 16, 2011 6:16 pm

Through a series of events my boyfriend has acquired a Cimbali Bistro M30. It says is was manufactured in 1992. We know NOTHING about espresso machines so I need some help.
Apparently we need to get an electrician in before we even try to get started with this. Can anyone tell me if we have to plumb a water line to it too? Any ideas on where I can get a manual? This was in a restaurant that went under and then sat in storage for about 5 or 6 years so I don't even know if it works.

I apologize for being so ignorant but it looks lovely and I don't want to mess it up if I can help it.
Thanks so much for any tips - let me know if I should post this elsewhere.

First of all, congrats! La Cimbali's are fantastic machines. If you go to Italy they're the de-facto machine in any coffee shop you'll see.

I recently got a La Cimbali M32 Bistro from a local coffee shop that upgraded. It was plumbed into a water line, but since I didn't want to drill through my cabinetry to plumb it I had it moved to get water from the reservoir tank, which is really simple.

I don't know much about the M30, but my M32 had a TERRIBLE drain pan, which had to be plumbed. It is easy and I just drain into a bucket under the table, but still.

Another great thing about the Cimbali's are as they are easy to work on and if properly maintained will last you 10 years past forever.

I'm just now experiencing a minor problem with mine I am about to post on, but given your situation I'd say get a professional in your area to service it first. It may need to be decalcified, may need a bunch of parts replaced, etc. Check out La Cimbali's website for the local servicer in your area and give em a ring.

Thanks so much- I looked on their website for manuals but I will check it out for service people. This whole thing is a little daunting!
