My only suggestion is that IMHO it is simplest to just siphon the boiler empty when needed rather than some of the other methods. I pop off the vacuum breaker and siphon the boiler empty with some Tygon tubing.

I was thinking about that... seemed like an easy way to do it.

Final Update:

It worked, but was still leaky after Saturday's lengthy reassembly and I'd had the problem perking around in my mind since then... popped into the hardware store, picked up a roll of teflon tape for a buck and decided to take half an hour to see if I could kill the damn problem off once and for all. Completely disassembled the assembly shown, teflon taped every junction within an inch of its little brass life, put it all back together, tested it... and no leaks!

So, no more leaks, and she works fine!

Thanks for the help

Oh my don't we just love that teflon tape !
Hurrah !

What did we ever do without it?

And....it's so cheap !
Amazing.

Did you know they make it in two sizes? Actually I was looking for a narrower size than the one I'm used to (1/2 " or so) when I asked the question at the local plumbing supply place, but turns out there is a wider (1" or so) size too.... Advice I got for the narrower piece I wanted was simply to fold it over.....worked too.

Sorry to gush....

they also make it in two thicknesses... one for water service and one (thicker) for gas service.

All of this is good to know. Thanks.

Of course, I still need to descale the thing, but that might just have to wait until after finals and such (I'm a senior in college, so this is a bit of an issue)...

I have used the thicker one after meals including beans, without success.

Please advise.

clearly a misapplication... you'll need to wrap it tighter next time!
