Bezzera BZ99 switch problem or something else?

Postby DrDregs on Wed Sep 21, 2011 4:38 am

I have this BZ99s I came across recently and it's been working perfectly - until now.. I can pull any of my machines down and fix most things. But when it comes to electrical stuff I'm hopeless so if this is a stupid question with an obvious answer I slap myself in advance  .

The other morning I turned the machine on and it filled and started to heat up okay. When I came back the power light was on but none of the others and the machine was cooling down. The switch was stuck in the power on position but nothing was happening. Push it in a fraction more and everything fires but only if it's held in. Easy fix with a new switch I thought.

I replaced the switch with no success but with slightly different behavior. Switch on, the power light stays on, the p/stat clicks, the lights flash but then nothing. If I gently feather the switch around where it clicks then the other lights come on and the pump works for a second.

Did I get a dud new switch or is it something else do you think?

I'm unfamiliar with this machine. Are there any other switches next to the one you are pressing? I'd suspect a loose connection. Have you checked both ends of the wiring to that switch? How about other wires nearby? Sometimes just taking a wire off of a spade lug and putting it back will wipe away some corrosion that was causing an iffy contact.

I'd start by reseating the connections along the power path (with the machine unplugged!), examining all the wires or any damage/discoloration.

Thanks allon. The only other switch is the brew button on the other side. It's a 2002 model but was rarely used and looks new inside. I have the case off and will poke around for loose connections - with the power off and unplugged.

Lovely machine though and will probably keep it. My lorry likes the cup warmer and curls up in it :D .

Anyways - after fiddling with a few connections around one of the solenoids the machine is working again.
Have to go. The old bird wants a coffee.
