OK, so Mike (kitt) is doing a great restoration job on a long-term project that is well above my skill level. Over the years I've seen some great threads on bringing some of these old beauties back from the edge and thought it might be cool to have a bunch of BEFORE and AFTER photos of significant stages of peoples projects. Not a restoration thread, just some examples of what is actually possible.

Anyhow, I thought this was a good one to start with...

This is a great idea for a thread. I look forward to seeing a simple before/after contrast of some of the more rare and unique machines out there, without having to wade through individual threads.

A never ended restoration shame on me...

I love the mix of three colors copper, brass and aluminum.

I also completely cracks on these old welds as no one makes them nowadays.

Before

Eccentric running burrs

Wiper scratches, espresso had a real brass taste :x

The burrs have been lowered by 3mm with an adapter flange.

The shaft needed some changes, And after, Titannitrid treated burrs fitted + titanium grade 5 screws, after calibrating without any axial or radial play.

Funnels + burr mount have been PTFE - Ceramics coated (easy clean, anti grip / slide effect)

Final result with FAG bearings and the extension for a 2nd proper bearing pre loaded without any kind of glue (from Porsche 911 steering)
New shaft made of stainless steel in one piece

And no more "egg dropping misery"

Can I send a Versalab M3 direct from the factory to you, Frank, then you send it to Brazil?
