Availability of the La Marzocco GS3 Paddle

Postby networkcrasher on Sun Dec 07, 2008 3:02 am

Does anyone have any new info concerning the paddle group on the GS3? LM's site seems to suggest it's available, but only on a special order basis. Lots of pictures of it floating around though...

Also, does anyone know of a LM dealer in Atlanta?

According to our sources at LM. The GS3 will be the last in line for the paddle group. The Linea is just now available in the US. Next up will be the FB series, then Mistral.

As most of you know from waiting for the GS3 the dates provided by the factory should only be used as a guideline. I suspect the GS3 will be available in the early part of 2010, and that is fairly realistic at this point.

Awesome. Thanks Terry.

This would probably be speculating, but any idea on whether or not it will be retrofit capable? From what I've read thus far, it looks as if a retrofit to paddles would be possible given the current group design. It is kind of annoying that they plaster pics of it all over their site, but don't sell it.

I don't believe you can retrofit any machine with the new paddle without changing the boiler.

Thanks Paul. That does sound interesting. Obviously you are vastly more aware of all things Marzocco, but I was under the impression that the group cap/solenoid of the hybrid group on the GS3 allowed for a paddle configuration. So, I have to ask, why is it the boiler would need to be replaced?

These days since groups are steel and welded to the boilers it would need a new boiler with the group welded on it already - if it wasn't a direct drop-in.

Having had another look over the drawings and the MP manual paddle group in my office I reckon it may fit a regular steel group. I'm not sure where the info came from about retrofiiting an existing GS3 because at least nothing has ever come from the factory about this AFAIK.

Thanks again Paul. I'm sure you are correct, but I had just read a post on James Hoffman's site that seemed to have some merit.

Wow, internal pictures of a Linea with a paddle group. Interesting as the photo owner states the groups are from a GS/3 paddle design.

I do like how the control panel rises above the chassis. Looks like a GS3 control panel! :)

I am curious as to how the group would look like on a GS3 since it's exposed. These wires look to activate the pump, the mains solenoid, or something electronic.

Mark Prince posted pics of a prototype paddle group GS3 a couple of years ago.

I assume the final version would look very similar.
