Any harm from pre-heating reservoir water? - Page 2

I thought the dimension of the pipe was being stated in NPT nominal units.

So the question you meant to ask was more along the lines of, 'are you sure that 1/8" copper tubing has an ID of 0.125"?'? Seems like that's an overstatement of what it would be, since 1/8" tubing (surely that's 1/8" OD) would hold even less given that it probably has a much smaller ID.

No, that was the question you wished I had asked.

Calculations?! I'm disappointed that no one did any measurements :)

So, I was dialing in a new bag of Ambrosia this morning, and after I got it in the right range (it took a few shots because I'm trying to methodical) I pulled two shots for me and the finance, one with "room temperature" water and one with preheated water (out of the kettle, almost boiling), and we tasted both (she was tasting blind).

We both clearly preferred the shot with the pre-heated water. It almost completely eliminated any sourness, which is a big problem with the Carezza, and let the other flavors come through more clearly. Of all the shots I pulled this morning making the switch to preheated water made the biggest change, and the most improvement.

Tomorrow I'm going to try and dial in with preheated water and see if I can find a better dose and grind for this setup, and then do another comparison. But just based on the change I tasted this morning I would recommend that anyone with a small single boiler machine give it a try and see if they can taste a difference.

Also, no pump failure yet - although I honestly wouldn't expect any signs of wear using hot water for weeks or months even in the worst case scenario, but I'll keep everyone updated.

Er, it's NPS for pipe sizes, NPT for pipe threads

Since cannonfodder said 'tube', I took the liberty of assuming ID.

5 feet of 1/8 NPS SCH 5 [.035" or ~1/32 wall] pipe would hold ~105mL.
Bending 5 feet of 1/8 SCH 5 pipe around a 1.4L espresso boiler would be something
