Another (very home-grown) pressure profiling thread

I have been coveting a Fluid-o-Tech TMFR pump, but I have found no obvious suppliers here in New Zealand, and in any case SWMBO would not look kindly on replacing a perfectly good pump with what looks suspiciously like another perfectly good pump. There have already been stern words over kitchen counter real estate after I sneaked the Linea 2AV in.

So I though what about using the small 3 phase motor I have lying around after pulling apart an old commercial ironing board with a 1-3 phase VFD that I have for the drill. All that was needed was an adaptor to fit a spare pump onto the motor, and a slotted dog-clutch kind of adaptor for the motor shaft. I turned these up on the lathe, and it's all up and running and it seems as though it will work okay.

This was of course the reason for my question about pumping into a blind filter in another post that Shadowfax cunningly linked up with a post about micro controllers. Well I'm still waiting for the Arduino mega that I hope to use to automate the vfd control.

First impressions are that it is noisier than the single phase motor. I'm going to check the shaft adaptor to see if it is eccentric, but I think I remember another post about a TMFR saying that it was noisier than a standard rotary pump.

Ah well another obsession to squander time on ...

My TMFR is quieter than my other pumps, but its a different type of noise and is dependant on the RPM you run it at. I believe at high RPMs it screams a bit, but I haven't had mine above about 1500RPM. I also think, although not sure, that there is a RPM difference between the 220V (3000RPM max) and 110V (3500RPM max) versions. If it doesn't pan out and you decide to spend the coin, FOT USA shipped direct to me in HKG. They have both voltage versions, so you can get a 220V one from them, as I did.
