Andreja Premium boiler pressure and cycle time

Postby marfer on Sun Mar 27, 2011 10:49 am

Hello Everyone.

I'm new here and hoping some of you more experienced users can help me out with some of my questions.
I just purchased a used Andreja Premium and Macap grinder, an upgrade from my Gaggia classic and MDF
that I've had for 7 years. I still can't get as good a tasting shot as I can with my Gaggia. Gaggia flavor
is more full around round. Andreja is more thinner or maybe cleaner...no real question here I assume it is because I am still not comfortable with Andreja.

Here are a few questions to start with.

1. Boiler pressure seams a little high resting at about 1.3-1.35. Should I adjust this lower?

2. Boiler cycles on every 25 seconds when machine is on and not in use and cycles on every 15-20sec
when in use. Is this normal ?

3. Is anyone familiar with a good service place in Toronto. Canada?

Thanks
Matt

That is a little high. I bought a Anita from Chris six years ago and it shipped with the pressure set to 1.2. Many people prefer to reduce that to 1.1. You should reduce it and see if there is improvement.

A small glass(es) of wine, a comfy chair, good light and . . . http://www.home-barista.com/andreja-buyers-guide.html . On boiler pressure, let's compromise :) 1.15 bar max reading on a fully warmed up machine.

You have a leak, more than likely, via the vacuum breaker valve.

Eric. Do you conclude I have leak because of the boiler pressure or the cycle times?

Cycle times.

But, you're lucky because there's tons of info on this site as regards replacing the vacuum breaker. Basically you leave the bottom half in the boiler and simply replace the top half & its updated components from a local supply house.

I just checked the brew pressure using a blind basket. Gage reading almost 11?
Should I adjust this lower too?

Yes. Adjust to 9.0 bar w/ the blind filter in place. Be sure to "untwist" the hose length connected to the OPV stub as you adjust the pressure down - 12 mm wrench.

You may want to build a portafilter pressure gauge, as the gauges in the machines can be inaccurate.

I would not worry about gauge precision; if it reads 9.0 bar and it's really 9.8 bar, so what? Treat the current reading as 'x' and decrease it by 2.0 bar. If the taste profile goes flat and crema production plummets, back up 1.0. If it's still fussy and the taste profile has a sharp edge, try reducing the pressure further. Repeat as necessary.

I sold my Andrea this Saturday.

Check if you have the breaker with the little cup.If so replace it for a silicon hose type.you don't want all that water on your boiler. It can cause a shortcut.
