Andreja at 0.9 bar at top of heating cycle... too low?

Postby mixedup on Sat Jan 10, 2009 12:22 pm

seems low...should this be adjusted? haven't tried pulling a shot, yet.

any advice/info is appreciated!

edit: it seems to have worked it's way up a bit now (1.2 maybe)...not enough time to heat i'm assuming.

Give it say 30 minutes at a minimum of a warm up, more like 45 before pulling a shot. I have my Elektra set to cycle at bit less than 1.1.

just came home and ran it again. let it warm up for about 45 min prior to pulling the first shot and boiler showed about 0.9 bar again (just on the edge of the "green" section of the gauge).

brew pressure seems to go a bit high, too (over 10 bar). i'll run it again tomorrow to confirm.

You can adjust the boiler pressure (an easily accessible adjusting screw at the top of the pressurestat) but think twice before you do it. 0.9 is the minimum recommended pressure, however in HX machines the problem is usually too high temperature. The only reason to increase the boiler pressure is that it makes it easier to froth milk.
If you like your espresso and manage to foam milk nicely, leave the parameters unchanged.
