Terra Coffee

I was recently in Old Quebec City when I stumbled upon an espresso/tea shop. A UTZ certified roaster. The best beans I have tasted so far. Anyone else heard of this guy?

I've bought beans from Terra Café many times.

http://www.terracaf.ca/produits/intro-cafes-thes.asp

They are based in Montréal and the shipping is free in Québec (order of $25 or more), or $2 per order to Manitoba. Their prices have been raised (was around $26/kg) put are still competitive. The owner, Carlo Granito, is a coffee passionate. I was generally satisfied with what I bought from them (Goccia d'oro and Cohiba blend especially) although their roasts cannot compete with 49th Parallel's Epic, Counter Culture Cafe's Espresso Toscano or with Café St-Henri's Godshot blend, to name a few (all roasted lighter than what Terra Café does). I use the word "generally" because the coffee was not always consistent from batch to batch (order to order).

Many here have touted RedBird's Espresso (see this thread: Red Bird Espresso), as an excellent quality/price ratio. I would put Terra Café in the same category, although my last order from Terra Café was made a year ago and I ordered from RedBird only two months ago (I didn't compare both coffees side by side).

So... not one of the top roaster in North America but still a very good value to my inexpert buds. Certainly better than what I can get elsewhere for local roasters in Montréal.

I haven't bought coffee yet from other Canadian roasters (Transcend, Detour, Social, Fratello, etc.), so I cannot make any comparison with them.

If you buy some for home use, I would be happy to get feedback, to confirm/infirm my personal opinion...

PS. They also sell green beans but at a non competitive price (around $24/kg). Still pricier than ordering from Sweet Maria's, even with shipping across the border.
