I'm looking for single-origin decaf. Three different stores and no luck: all the decafs are blends.

We're both on restricted caffeine intake, and like to blend whatever regular-caffeine stuff we're drinking with decaf, simply because the variety of decaf just isn't there.

I'm specifically looking for a nothing-but-Colombian decaf, whole bean, city to full city roast. That seems to blend fairly well with everything we've tried. Another option is straight-up Sumatran decaf, again in city to full city roast, which I'd try blending with the light-to-medium roasts.

Any suggestions, whether nationally-available or relatively close to Chicago?

(Vienna, French, or Italian roasts where I taste more carbon than coffee need not apply.)

Hmm, if you were looking for S.O. green (unroasted) decaf I'd have some ideas for you since I roast decaf for family members, but for roasted coffee I'd suggest that you might try asking your local roasters if they'll sell you just the S.O. components of some of their decaf blends. I learned that a roaster local to me only sells blended decafs but they roast and sell S.O. decaf to one of their wholesale accounts.

Good luck!

I'm sure there are others, but just offhand I remember getting a Colombian decaf from Klatch. It's been awhile, but I bought it for my wife and she seemed to enjoy it. Their "med. roasts" seem to be on the dark side of medium. I'm in NC, and I usually get my order 2-3 days post roast (usually two).

My wife is on an all-decaf diet and I've found a fair number of decaf SO coffees from reputable specialty roasters. Here are some options:

Also, Bridgeport Coffee in Chicago usually has SO decaf. Right now they have a Costa Rican decaf. They used to carry a decaf Ethiopian. So they must vary the offering seasonally.

Sterling Decaf Guatemala Maravilla
Heart Decaf Guatemala Finca Cascajal
Ritual Decaf Colombia Los Odilos Not single-farm, but single-cooperative from Huila
Sightglass Decaf Colombia La Serrania Again, not single-origin, but two coffees, a Huila and a Tolima

The problem you're going to have with any of these is that decaf stales faster than regular coffee does, so you will want to find something you can get fairly quickly. But it can be very good indeed if done right, and if the beans were good to begin with.

Best,
David

I buy my SO decafs from http://www.blackgoldcoffeecompany.com/ I blend their Sumatran Mandeheling and Costa Rica SHB decafs with regular Brazil beans with good results. They also have SO decafs from Columbia and Guatamala. All are Swiss Water processed.

Thanks y'all. I plan on trying several of these at some point, especially the water-processed ones.
Meanwhile, we found SO decaf when we weren't looking for it! Meijer's, of all places, carries a store-brand decaf Colombian *and* regular Sumatran. It may not taste as good as some of the stuff y'all are linking to, but at least until I upgrade the brewer, it's sufficient. Thanks!

We have had several great SO decafs in the West lately.

Others have had them, but these are in stock according to their websites. Tried both and both are excellent and not burnt.
