Panama Guyami Robusta

Postby Arpi on Fri Dec 11, 2009 9:59 am

Anybody tried?

I roasted it a couple of days ago (aggressively-very dense bean) and my impression is that it is not that bad. I tried a shot by itself and it had good acidity. The body came out super silky and the taste was not rubbery. This is what it says in the bag:

Sweet Maria's
Panama Guyami Indian Robusta Rustico
At full citi for French Press, a potent pungent cup with baker's chocolate...or add 15% for espresso blends.

I think these beans would do well blended with Brasil Ipanema Dulce. What you think?

I have not had that coffee, but I do know that any "Brazil Ipanema Dulce" you'd get right now would be past crop.

The last time I had the Ipanema Dulce, it tasted like a cherry bomb had gone off in my face. Adding 15% of a retread truck tire ear boxing would be the perfect coup de grace :P

I really hope these coffees are better now than three years ago.

I found myself quite pleased with this by itself. Long, slow roast and plenty of rest yielded a nice robusta shot. Not as good as the CxR, mind you, but quite nice. I look forward to robusta progression.

Yeah... I've never really understood the appeal myself.
