You are correct. Besides, we are way off topic.
One of my favorite roasters is our own Johnny from Prayerhouse Coffee.

Anyone have recommendations on Kickapoo Crema? I just received a Kilo and I'm thinking there was a roast problem. Almost no aroma to the beans or grounds, and all I'm getting in the cup is some acidity and a little bitter chocolate. It's only 3 days post roast, and I've tried 92C & 93C, but it really isn't good. I'm hoping some rest or other suggestion will help.

It's also VERY dense. I'm needing to grind far finer than typical and updose a bit. The roast color looks OK, but it definitely tastes like there was development problem to me.

Try it using a filter method. Sounds like you're trying espresso? If filter tastes boring and lackluster it might be the roast.

Good call. Brewed on the Technivorm and still lemon acidity, slight roasty notes and tannic bitterness (that stays on the tongue long after drinking).

It would not hurt to reach out directly to Kickapoo. I've thrown questions at them and they've always done an outstanding job of providing a quick reply with helpful information.

I did this morning, hopefully they'll help me out or review the roast to see if there was problem.

To add something positive to this thread, I recently tried Len's Blends #5 for the first time, and I can't say enough good. Forgiving, tasty...toffee, nuts and cinnamon. And reasonably priced especially if you order the 19oz bag.

Figured I'd finish this story. This took a weird turn. It took two weeks for Kickapoo to respond (after two emails from me). By that time, I'd dumped the whole two kilos of Crema after giving it a week's rest, but still having problems.

There was a pleasant back and forth between us about the coffee and trouble shooting (which was too late since I'd dumped it), and they made two suggestions of coffee they would be glad to send me to try. They said their roasting process was pretty fool proof and doubted it was a roast error, more likely I just didn't like the coffee.

I responded that I'd like to try one of the offerings, and then..................nothing, crickets :?: . Never heard from them again, and needless to say I won't be buying from them again either.

So I tried a couple of the recommendations from when I started the thread.

And Klatch coffee and Dragonfly coffee are GREAT!

I haven't really been fond of many espresso blends that I have tried but really LOVE Dragonfly's Creme Dolce and Klatch's Summer Belle Espresso in a Moka pot or Aeropress!

Dragonfly's Yemen Haraz has been great and every coffee i have ordered from Klatch has been good to great. (in particular one bag from Uganda!)

So Klatch and Dragonfly are high up my list now.

Thanks!
