Mitalena's Espresso Delight - Initial impression

Postby Jebez on Sun Jun 05, 2011 1:02 am

I just purchased my first pound of Espresso Delight Blend from Mitalena, and I'm not too thrilled with it. On a scale of one to ten, so far I'd have to score it a five.
For one thing, this is the first coffee I've ever purchased that had almost no aroma when I opened the bag.
I've been making ristretos with it (14 grams, 25 sec. @ 200 degrees yielding 1.5 oz of espresso) that tastes less bodied than anything I've previously used. Looking at the extraction beneath my bottomless portafilter, I've observed that tiger stripes are formed, but rather than the numerous stripes other blends produce, this looks more like a windmill with three light, and three semi-dark stripes. It also blonds faster than other blends I've used. I've had to set my grinder to a much finer setting than I've had to for other blends. The taste is okay - but taste is subjective.
Has anyone here had a more satisfying experience?

Cheers!
Jerry

I've never tried that coffee, but try upping the dose.

Thank you Clint.
I just brewed a triple ristreto (21g at 201 degrees for 1.5 oz of espresso in 28 sec). I've never brewed more than 14g.
It was better... more body and character.
